Reviving an Old Laptop for Early Learning: A Journey with Ubuntu

In a world brimming with new technology, it’s easy to overlook the potential of older devices. Recently, I decided to breathe new life into my 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu. The goal? To transform it into an educational tool for my four-year-old daughter. This will be her very first laptop, providing her an opportunity to explore typing and writing in a user-friendly environment.

One of my main objectives is to simplify the laptop’s user experience. I want her to be able to start typing right away without the need to navigate with a mouse—an essential skill that can come later. To achieve this, I am on the lookout for the best method to configure the laptop to launch directly into a text editor upon startup.

Additionally, I have another query regarding usability: Is there a way to have the device boot up with the Caps Lock function activated? This feature could help her get used to typing in uppercase letters while she practices her writing skills.
