Reviving a Vintage Laptop for My Child’s First Experience with Technology

In an exciting project, I’ve breathed new life into my 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu. This rejuvenated device is set to become my 4-year-old daughter’s very first laptop, a perfect tool for her to begin her journey into typing and writing.

One of my main goals is to make the experience as user-friendly as possible. I want her to be able to dive straight into a text editor upon startup, eliminating the need for her to navigate with a mouse at this stage. Your suggestions on how to set up the laptop so it opens directly to the text editor would be invaluable.

Additionally, I’m curious about configuring the device to start with the Caps Lock key activated. This could be beneficial as she learns to type, ensuring her letters are capitalized while she focuses on mastering the keyboard.
