Reviving a Vintage Laptop: A Special Gift for My Daughter’s First Computer
In an age where technology is constantly evolving, I recently took on the rewarding challenge of reviving my trusty 12-year-old laptop. After a successful installation of Ubuntu, this laptop is now ready to embark on a new journey as my four-year-old daughter’s first personal computer. This initiative not only aims to familiarize her with technology but also to help her learn essential skills like typing and writing.
As I prepare this laptop for her use, I am seeking the most user-friendly way for her to access a text editor right from startup. My goal is to ensure that she can engage with her writing without the initial need to navigate with a mouse, which can be a daunting task for a young child. If anyone has insights on how to set up the laptop to directly open a text editor upon booting, I would love to hear your suggestions.
Additionally, I have another query regarding the startup configuration: Is it possible to have the caps lock function activated when the device powers on? This feature would certainly make it easier for her as she learns to type.
I am enthusiastic about this new phase in my daughter’s learning experience and appreciate any tips that could help make her interaction with her new laptop as seamless as possible!
