Reviving an Old Laptop: Setting Up Ubuntu for My Child’s First Computer
I recently embarked on a rewarding project: I breathed new life into my old laptop, which had been gathering dust for the past 12 years. After installing Ubuntu, I decided this would be a wonderful first computer for my 4-year-old daughter. My goal is to create an environment where she can start learning how to type and express her creativity through writing.
One of my main objectives in this setup is to make the user experience as simple as possible for her. To achieve this, I’m exploring ways to configure the laptop to boot directly into a text editor. This would allow her to dive straight into her writing without needing to navigate the complexities of a traditional mouse interface just yet.
Additionally, I’m curious if there is a way to set the laptop to start with Caps Lock activated. This could help her get accustomed to typing in uppercase letters and make the experience a bit more seamless for her early learning phases.
If you have any tips or suggestions on how to facilitate this setup, I would greatly appreciate your insights! Let’s make the first steps into writing as enjoyable and easy as possible for our little ones.
