Reviving an Old Laptop for My Child: A Journey into Ubuntu

As a parent, finding ways to inspire and educate our children is always an exciting adventure. Recently, I embarked on a mission to breathe new life into my 12-year-old laptop, transforming it into a learning tool for my four-year-old daughter. I decided to install Ubuntu, an open-source operating system known for its user-friendliness and versatility, making it the perfect choice for young learners.

My aim is to create a user-friendly environment where she can begin to learn essential skills like typing and writing without the added complexity of navigating a mouse just yet. To achieve this, I’m looking for the most straightforward method to set up the laptop so that it opens directly into a text editor upon startup. This way, she can dive right into her writing exercises without any confusion.

Additionally, I have a curiosity about whether it’s possible to have the Caps Lock feature activated at startup. This could help her get accustomed to using uppercase letters as she learns to type, ideally fostering her writing skills from the very beginning.
