Reviving an Old Laptop: A New Learning Tool for My Child
In an age where technology often races ahead, it can be rewarding to breathe new life into an older device. Recently, I took on the project of refurbishing my 12-year-old laptop and chose to install Ubuntu as its operating system. This laptop will serve a special purpose: it’s going to be my 4-year-old daughter’s very first computer, helping her embark on a journey of learning to type and write.
One of my primary goals is to simplify her experience, especially since she is still adjusting to using a computer. I’m exploring ways to configure the laptop so that it automatically opens to a text editor upon startup. This would allow her to dive straight into her writing without needing to navigate the operating system or use a mouse right away.
Additionally, I have another question on my mind: is there a way to set the laptop to start with the Caps Lock key activated? This could be helpful for encouraging her early writing exercises to focus on capitalization.
Stay tuned for updates on this journey as I work to create a nurturing and user-friendly environment for my little one to explore the world of technology!
