Reviving a Vintage Laptop for Educational Purposes: Introducing Ubuntu to My Child

In an exciting new project, I recently took on the challenge of revamping my 12-year-old laptop and installing Ubuntu on it. This device will serve as the first laptop for my four-year-old daughter, providing her with a fantastic opportunity to learn typing and writing skills in a fun and engaging way.

One of my primary goals is to simplify the user experience for her. I want her to easily access a text editor when she powers on the laptop, reducing the need for mouse navigation at this stage. After all, ease of use is key to fostering her interest in technology and encouraging her learning journey. I’m currently exploring various methods to customize the startup experience and ensure she can dive straight into her writing without any hurdles.

Additionally, I have a couple of technical questions. Is it possible to configure the laptop to start with the Caps Lock activated? This could make a big difference for her, especially when she’s learning to type properly.
