Reviving an Old Laptop: A Perfect First Computer for My Child
In an exciting turn of events, I recently revived my 12-year-old laptop, equipping it with the Ubuntu operating system. This sturdy machine is now being transformed into my four-year-old daughter’s very first personal computer, where she’ll soon embark on her journey of learning how to type and express her creativity through writing.
One of my primary goals is to make this learning experience as seamless as possible for her. I am exploring ways to configure the laptop so that it automatically opens to a text editor upon startup. This will allow her to dive right into her writing without the need to navigate with a mouse just yet, making the experience more intuitive and enjoyable.
Additionally, I have a question regarding accessibility: is it possible to set the laptop to start with the Caps Lock key activated? This could help her get used to typing in uppercase letters more comfortably as she begins her typing journey.
