Restored My 12-Year-Old Laptop and Set Up Ubuntu — Now It’s My 4-Year-Old’s First Computer to Help Her Learn Typing and Writing

Reviving an Old Laptop: A New Beginning for My Little Learner

In an exciting turn of events, I’ve breathed new life into my trusty 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu. This device is now set to become my four-year-old daughter’s very first computer — a wonderful opportunity for her to learn typing and writing in a fun environment.

As I prepare this laptop for her use, I want to simplify her experience as much as possible. One of my main goals is to figure out how to configure the system to launch directly into a text editor. This way, she won’t need to worry about using a mouse just yet, allowing her to focus solely on developing her writing skills.

Additionally, I’m exploring the possibility of powering on the device with the Caps Lock activated, ensuring that everything she types stands out. If anyone has tips or guidance on these settings, I would love to hear your suggestions!

It’s a thrilling adventure to support my daughter’s digital journey while giving an old piece of technology a new purpose. Here’s to making learning more accessible and enjoyable!
