Reviving an Old Laptop: A New Start for My Child
I recently undertook an exciting project: I repaired my 12-year-old laptop and installed Ubuntu on it. This revived machine will serve as a first laptop for my 4-year-old daughter, giving her a fantastic opportunity to learn typing and writing.
One of my main goals is to simplify her experience, so she won’t need to rely on the mouse just yet. I’m exploring ways to set the laptop to automatically open a text editor upon startup. This would allow her to dive right into her typing exercises without any distractions.
Additionally, I’m curious if it’s possible to configure the laptop to start with Caps Lock activated. This could be particularly helpful for her as she’s getting used to the keyboard layout.
It’s an exciting venture, and I look forward to seeing how it all turns out! Any tips or suggestions from fellow tech enthusiasts would be greatly appreciated.
