Reviving an Old Laptop for My Child: A Journey into Ubuntu
I recently took on the challenge of reviving my 12-year-old laptop and decided to install Ubuntu as the operating system. This refurbished device will now serve as the first laptop for my four-year-old daughter, providing her with a platform to learn typing and writing skills.
As I prepare for this new adventure, I’m exploring ways to ensure that her initial experience is as seamless as possible. One of my main goals is to set the laptop up so that it opens directly into a text editor. This way, she won’t need to navigate with a mouse—allowing her to focus solely on practicing her writing.
Additionally, I’m curious about a couple of technical aspects. Specifically, is there a way to have the device automatically start with the Caps Lock feature enabled? This could be particularly helpful for her as she learns to type capital letters without the need to understand keyboard layout complexities.
If anyone has insights or tips on how to optimize this setup for a young learner, I would greatly appreciate your input!
