Reviving an Old Laptop for My Child’s First Experience with Technology

In an exciting project, I recently rejuvenated a 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu, transforming it into a valuable learning tool for my 4-year-old daughter. This will be her introduction to the world of technology, allowing her to learn the fundamentals of typing and writing in a supportive and engaging environment.

One of my main goals is to simplify her experience as she begins her journey. I’m exploring ways to configure the laptop so that it opens directly into a text editor upon startup. This would eliminate the need for her to navigate using a mouse, making it more intuitive for her as she learns to express herself through writing.

Additionally, I have some questions about settings that could enhance her user experience. Specifically, I’m curious about the possibility of configuring the device to start with the Caps Lock key active. This feature could be beneficial, especially when she’s learning to write, as it would help her understand the significance of capital letters in her writing endeavors.
