Title: Reviving My Old Laptop for My Child’s First Digital Experience
In an age where technology is rapidly evolving, it’s remarkable how a decade-old laptop can find new life. Recently, I undertook the rewarding project of repairing my 12-year-old laptop and installing Ubuntu, transforming it into an ideal starter computer for my four-year-old daughter. My goal is to provide her with a platform to learn typing and writing, equipping her for the digital age while fostering her creativity.
As I configure the laptop for her use, I’m looking for the simplest way to set it up so it opens directly into a text editor. This would help eliminate the need for her to navigate with a mouse initially, allowing her to focus on developing her typing skills without distraction.
Additionally, I have a couple of practical questions. First, is there a way to set the laptop to start with Caps Lock activated? Making sure that her initial interactions are positive and stress-free is crucial, and I want to set everything up in a way that enhances her experience.
Stay tuned for updates on our journey as she embarks on her digital adventure!
