Reviving an Old Laptop for a New Generation: Installing Ubuntu for My Kid
In an exciting move to breathe new life into my 12-year-old laptop, I recently decided to install Ubuntu. This laptop is now poised to become my 4-year-old daughter’s first introduction to technology. My hope is that it will serve as a platform for her to learn how to type and express her creativity through writing.
One of my main goals is to simplify her experience by ensuring that the laptop opens directly to a text editor. This would allow her to dive right into writing without having to navigate the complexities of using a mouse just yet. I’m exploring various options to make this as seamless as possible.
Additionally, I’ve been wondering about the possibility of having the laptop boot up with Caps Lock enabled. That could add an interesting twist to her early typing experiences.
Stay tuned as I share more about this journey of merging old tech with new learning opportunities!
