Breathing New Life into a Vintage Laptop: A Learning Tool for My Child
Recently, I decided to revitalize my trusty 12-year-old laptop by installing Ubuntu, transforming it into a perfect first computer for my four-year-old daughter. This little project is not just about bringing an old device back to life; it’s also an opportunity for her to begin learning typing and writing in a digital environment.
One of my primary goals is to simplify her experience with the laptop as she navigates her early learning stages. I’m exploring ways to configure the laptop to boot directly into a text editor, allowing her to engage with writing without needing to use a mouse, which may be a bit daunting for her at this age.
Additionally, I have a question for fellow Ubuntu users: is there a way to configure the device to start up with Caps Lock enabled? This would ensure that she has an easier time typing with the letters appearing in uppercase if that’s her preference.
I look forward to sharing more updates as we embark on this journey of digital exploration together!
