Troubleshooting High CPU Temperatures on Your Ryzen 5 2600X
If you’ve been experiencing frequent crashes during your gaming sessions, you might want to turn your attention to your CPU temperatures. High temps can lead to system instability and performance issues. A recent experience with a Ryzen 5 2600X has highlighted the importance of monitoring CPU performance, especially if you’ve noticed high idle temperatures.
Identifying the Issue
After gaming crashes became a regular occurrence, I decided to investigate further and was alarmed to find that my CPU was idling at temperatures exceeding 75°C. Having built this system in 2021, I realize that I’m not as knowledgeable about thermal management as I should be, prompting me to consider a few potential solutions.
The first step was to check if the thermal paste needed reapplication or if the CPU cooler required an upgrade. Despite running only HWM and Opera GX, my CPU temperatures were staggering, with minimums around 72.4°C and peaking at an alarming 90.4°C. Additionally, the CPU was operating at a VID voltage of 1.337V.
Exploring Solutions
In my quest for optimal performance, I explored potential BIOS settings for thermal throttling options. Unfortunately, I was unable to locate any settings that would allow me to cap my CPU temperatures, which is a common solution to combat overheating situations.
