Six Calls to My ISP’s Support About Frequent Internet Drops, High Latency, and Packet Loss — Their Response: “What’s Packet Loss?”

Struggling with Internet Connectivity: My Ongoing Battle with ISP Support

As a regular user of the internet, encountering connectivity issues can be incredibly frustrating. Unfortunately, I’ve found myself stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of technical difficulties with my Internet Service Provider (ISP). Allow me to share my experience and perhaps shed light on a common concern many of us face.

For the past several weeks, I’ve been dealing with internet disruptions that have significantly hindered my online activities. This includes frequent dropouts, where both the Internet and ADSL lights on my Huawei HG532e modem switch off. High latency and packet loss have also become persistent issues, leading to a subpar browsing experience that leaves much to be desired.

To troubleshoot, I contacted my ISP’s technical support team no fewer than six times, hoping for a solution. Each time, I was met with not only long wait times but also a lack of understanding from the support representatives. In fact, one of them was baffled by the term “packet loss,” which left me questioning their expertise.

After troubleshooting diligently on my end—ensuring no external factors were causing latency between my PC and the modem—I decided to switch to G.dmt modulation in hopes of improving my connection. While this adjustment resolved two of my issues, it significantly aggravated one of them: my internet began to drop out every 2 to 5 minutes. This was frustratingly reminiscent of previous problems I had experienced with my modem, but this time the severity was unprecedented.

In my quest for resolution, I requested to escalate my issue to Level 2 technical support. I was told to expect a call back within two days. However, that was two weeks ago, and since then I have only received continuous promises of callbacks that never materialize.

At this point, my patience is running thin. It’s disheartening when you opt for professional help only to feel like you’re being left in the dark. If anyone has experienced similar issues or has valuable suggestions on how to address persistent internet connectivity problems, your insights would be greatly appreciated. Let’s band together and find a way to solve these common challenges!
