A Perfect Purchase Turns Troubling

Just two months ago, I purchased what I believed was a pristine Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra for $800. Having thoroughly inspected the device and communicated with the seller, I felt confident in my purchase. However, my excitement quickly dwindled when a message popped up on the screen after returning home from work.

The message read:

This device has been reported as lost or stolen and must be returned to Amazon.

The Frightening Realization

I was immediately consumed with anxiety. The pop-up prompted me to call a number for verification, but a simple Google search revealed numerous claims that this was a scam, with many individuals recounting their experiences of similar messages. Most alarming was the realization that I might have unknowingly bought a stolen phone.

Desperate for answers, I reached out to the seller, attaching a photo of the alarming message. To my surprise, he responded quickly, expressing ignorance about the situation and offered either a replacement device or a full refund. While this seemed promising, it left me feeling skeptical and distressed.

Troubleshooting the Situation

In an attempt to resolve the issue, I performed a factory reset on the phone, hoping that it might clear the problem. However, after wiping the cache and going through the initial setup again, the same troubling message reappeared. I was stuck in a cycle of uncertainty, and my sense of dread only deepened.

A Glimmer of Hope

Eventually, the seller called back with a new plan. He offered to swap my problematic phone for another S23 Ultra in either green or black. Skeptical but hopeful, I agreed. We met, and he handed me the replacement, which was in even better condition than the first.
