Steam demands playing the game via Origin, but Origin needs the game installed through Steam; however, Origin doesn’t detect the installation, and Steam remains unaware of the issue.

Navigating the Frustrations of EA Games on Steam: A Troubleshooting Journey

Greetings, fellow gamers!

Today, I’m here to share my somewhat frustrating experience with a peculiar issue involving EA games purchased through Steam. I felt it was important to document my journey, not only because it has been quite the adventure, but also in hopes that sharing my tale might resonate with others who have faced similar challenges.

The Dilemma

Recently, I bought three promising titles through the Steam platform, confident that my system could handle them without a hitch. To my dismay, I quickly discovered that EA enforces a policy that requires their games to be launched through their own client, Origin. At first glance, this seems like a minor inconvenience, but the reality proved far more complicated.

When attempting to launch these games from Steam, the Origin client would automatically open but then fail to recognize the installations I had already completed via Steam. It was as if my games were caught in a confounding loop: Origin insisted that I needed to download the games again, but any attempt to do so led me down a rabbit hole of endless error messages.

Troubleshooting with Tech Support

Seeking a resolution, I contacted EA’s customer support. While I must commend their friendly representatives, the assistance I received unfortunately didn’t address my underlying problem. I underwent the typical uninstall and reinstall procedures, which resulted in a lengthy wait for the games to download again due to my notoriously slow internet connection.

Fortunately, another EA agent provided a glimmer of hope, directing me to make some alterations on Steam’s side. I followed their advice to clear my download cache and repair the library folders. I rebooted the clients, eager to see progress – and for a moment, it seemed like the issue had been resolved. Origin recognized the game as installed, but then came the next hurdle: attempting to play the game caused the Origin client to glitch out, failing to initiate any gameplay.

Seeking Additional Help

With no solutions on the horizon, I reached out to Steam’s support team for assistance, only to be presented with the classic “please contact EA for help” response. This left me feeling quite disheartened, especially as my prior attempts for a refund had been thwarted, thanks to my slow download speeds pushing me past the refund eligibility window.

The perplexing nature of purchasing a game on Steam that ultimately requires interaction with another platform brings up a valid question: why such a convoluted process for players
