Steam mandates launching the game via Origin, while Origin expects the game to be installed through Steam. Consequently, Origin fails to detect the installation, and Steam doesn’t acknowledge the issue.

The Frustrating Tug-of-War Between Steam and Origin: A Gamer’s Plea for Help

Greetings, fellow gamers!

Today, I find myself sharing a rather vexing experience that many of you might relate to when dealing with the complex interplay between gaming platforms. In an effort to seek advice and possibly find solidarity, I’m laying out my recent saga concerning game installations via Steam and Origin—a baffling mess that feels reminiscent of a loop straight out of a frustrating video game itself.

The Challenge

Recently, I purchased three popular titles through Steam, all of which my PC meets the requirements to run without a hitch. However, my excitement quickly turned to annoyance when I discovered that EA’s games mandate launching through the Origin client. Unfortunately, while Steam allows the purchase, Origin claims to oversee the launch, creating a convoluted situation that leaves me stuck.

To put it simply, Origin refuses to acknowledge the games I have already installed via Steam. Instead, it insists that I must download them anew. When I attempt this, I face one of two scenarios:

  1. Forced Reinstallation: If the game isn’t already recognized, Origin prompts a fresh installation through Steam.

  2. Download Failure: If it’s installed, I receive notifications saying, “Download could not be completed. Please try again,” which is about as helpful as a game over screen with no lifelines left.

My Attempts to Resolve the Issue

In an effort to restore my gaming experience, I reached out to EA Customer Service. To their credit, the representatives were friendly and guided me through the traditional routes of uninstalling and reinstalling the games. Regrettably, this only added to my frustration—three days later, I found myself back where I started, thanks to my slow internet connection.

One more attempt with an EA representative led to some progress. They suggested I clear my download cache and repair the library folders on Steam. After following these instructions, the Origin client acknowledged the installation of the game—but instead of being able to play, now trying to launch it results in absolutely nothing. I’m greeted with an unresponsive screen, a futile setup loop, and eventually, a return to the Origin home page.

Seeking further support, I contacted Steam, but their response was equally disappointing. I was essentially told to go back to EA or request a refund, despite my prior issues with the refund process. It left me wondering why these games are even purchasable on Steam if this is
