Steam mandates playing the game via Origin, while Origin insists the game is installed through Steam. However, Origin doesn’t acknowledge the installation, and Steam remains unaware of the issue.

The Frustration of Dual Launchers: A Gamers’ Dilemma

Hello, fellow gamers and tech enthusiasts!

Today, I wish to share a confusing and frustrating experience I’ve had while trying to play several games purchased through Steam, which, unfortunately, required Origin to launch. Although I encountered friendly customer service throughout the process, I found myself caught in an absurd loop that left me with a feeling of powerlessness. Let me recount my journey through this technical labyrinth.

To give you a bit of context, I recently bought three relatively new games that my system should run smoothly. However, when attempting to launch these titles through Steam, I was immediately redirected to the Origin client thanks to EA’s policies. This wouldn’t normally be a significant issue, but here’s where the problems began: the Origin client refused to acknowledge that the games were already installed on my hard drive.

Instead, Origin insisted I needed to download them again. This led me to one of two frustrating scenarios each time I tried to resolve the issue:

  1. If the game hadn’t been installed via Origin, it would trigger an installation through Steam.
  2. If the game was already installed, I would be bombarded with the message that it could not be downloaded and to try again.

As I navigated this unusual conundrum, I attempted to seek help from EA’s customer support. While the representatives were undoubtedly courteous and eager to assist, the solutions they provided felt like running in circles. Initially, I completed the outdated uninstall/reinstall routine and ended up waiting three days for the game to re-download, thanks to the sluggish Australian internet.

After this setback, I engaged with another EA support agent who offered to address some Steam-related configurations. Following their advice, I cleared the download cache and repaired the library folders within the Steam client. When I got everything back up and running, I thought I had found the solution—Origin no longer complained about the game not being installed! However, my joy was short-lived. Each time I clicked play, the game simply wouldn’t launch. Instead, it prompted a first-time setup via Steam, and then… nothing. It would reset the Origin client and return me to the home page, leaving me stuck in limbo once again.

In my quest for resolution, I reached out to Steam support, only to be told they could not assist me. Their suggestion was to contact EA or seek a refund. Ironically, I had already attempted to request a refund previously
