Task Manager is only recognizing 8gb of my RAM, but the computer displays it as “15.5gb usable” (out of 16)

Troubleshooting RAM Recognition Issues: My Experience with Task Manager

Recently, I encountered an intriguing issue with my computer regarding RAM recognition. Despite having a system that displays 16GB of RAM, the Task Manager only acknowledged 8GB, labeling it as “usable.” This discrepancy became apparent when I was rendering video content while also streaming music on YouTube. To my surprise, rather than high GPU usage being the culprit for the buffering sound, it turned out that the RAM was under considerable strain.

Upon further investigation, I realized that Task Manager indicated that 3.4GB of RAM was being utilized, which it claimed was equivalent to 39% of my total memory. This just didn’t seem right, as I couldn’t quite grasp how such a percentage was determined given the workload on my system.

For anyone curious, I’ve shared a screenshot of my Task Manager alongside the “About my PC” section for reference: Check it out here!.

Interestingly, during other RAM-intensive tasks—like video editing—I noticed that my sequencer was able to manage 8GB of video data smoothly, and the overall operation of my system remained unaffected. This raised more questions about the actual RAM usage and how it was being reported.

If you’ve faced similar issues or have insights to share, I would love to hear your suggestions or solutions to effectively resolve RAM-related discrepancies. Let’s discuss this common tech concern!
