Navigating Burnout in Cybersecurity: A Personal Journey

After three years in the field, equipped with a Master’s degree and a portfolio that includes stints at prestigious firms, I should feel accomplished. Yet, I find myself grappling with an overwhelming sense of fatigue.
As a cybersecurity professional, the pressure to continuously enhance my skills and deliver results has begun to take its toll. Each day feels like a sprint, with long hours that often push the limits of work-life balance. Tasks that should realistically take a couple of days are compressed into an 8-hour workday, driven by expectations that often seem unattainable.
What makes this especially challenging is that I genuinely appreciate the work I do. The theoretical side of cybersecurity captivates me; however, the practical reality feels like a never-ending grind. My daily routine frequently extends beyond the standard 9-to-5, leading to evenings where I’m too exhausted to engage in hobbies or complete necessary chores. It feels like a cycle—work, rest briefly, and then repeat. Even deeply appreciated vacations feel like momentary respites before diving back into the demanding rhythm.
