totally overrun … paypal drained, accounts changed, etc

Cybersecurity Nightmare: A Cautionary Tale and Call for Help

Last night, I made a regrettable decision to download a free program, unknowingly unleashing a cascade of chaos on my computer. Upon returning to my PC this morning, I discovered that my web browser was being hijacked, and several unfamiliar applications had mysteriously appeared on my C drive. This alarming situation led me to take immediate action using Windows Defender, Malwarebytes, and CCleaner, but unfortunately, none of these tools could completely resolve the issue, and the turmoil continues unabated.

As if the digital chaos weren’t enough, I received an alarming notification from PayPal indicating that I had somehow issued two $1,700 gift cards to an unknown recipient. I promptly filed a dispute to reverse the transactions, but even after changing my password, I have been unable to regain access to my PayPal account to investigate further. I’ve reached out to their customer service for assistance, but I’m left feeling vulnerable and exposed.

The situation escalated when I discovered that someone had also changed the password for my T-Mobile account—though I managed to rectify that—and attempted to access my U.S. government account. The thought of hackers having access to my sensitive information is incredibly distressing.

Now, I’m at a loss for how to proceed. The question looms large: how could they obtain so much information? Are they still siphoning off my data as I type this? It’s a sobering reality that I never thought I would face.

I’m reaching out for suggestions and advice. If anyone has dealt with a similar crisis or has recommendations for safeguarding digital accounts and recovering from breaches, I would greatly appreciate your insights. Let’s work together to combat this alarming trend and protect our online lives.
