Troubleshooting Boot Issues After CCleaner and NVIDIA Driver Update
Experiencing boot problems after running system maintenance tools can be a frustrating situation for any PC user. Recently, after installing a new NVMe SSD and rearranging my game library, I opted to run CCleaner to clean up any potential registry errors. This seemed like a sensible precaution to prevent broken registry links as I prepared to install the latest NVIDIA drivers.
Unfortunately, a few hours later, when I attempted to update my NVIDIA drivers, I encountered persistent installation errors. After several failed attempts, I decided to restart my computer, but that’s when things took a turn for the worse. Upon rebooting, my PC displayed no signs of life beyond the power indicator lights.
The Symptoms
The most concerning clue was the complete absence of output on the monitor. I noticed that my keyboard wasn’t responding either; for instance, the Caps Lock light refused to activate. Attempts to access Windows Repair using F11 were futile. Although the CPU and case fans ran smoothly and the RGB lighting on both the RAM and graphics card lit up, I couldn’t even access the Aorus screen or BIOS settings.
In a state of panic, I tried various power options, but holding down the power button failed to shut down the system completely—meaning I had to resort to unplugging the power supply or switching it off at the back of the case.
System Specifications
For reference, here are my current specifications:
– Operating System: Windows 10
– Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 1070 Ti
– Processor: AMD Ryzen 2600
– Motherboard: Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WiFi
Moving Forward
As I navigate through this predicament, it’s essential to identify the potential causes behind this boot failure. It may be related to changes made during registry cleaning or conflicts triggered by the driver update attempts. This situation highlights the importance of creating backups and ensuring all drivers are compatible before making significant changes to your system.
