Disabling Touchscreen Functionality on Your HP Device After a Screen Crack

Accidental damage to your device can be frustrating, especially when it hampers its usability. Recently, I experienced this firsthand when I moved and inadvertently cracked the touchscreen on my All-in-One HP computer. To complicate matters, the upper right section of the screen has turned black, and the device mistakenly registers constant touches on that area. Consequently, it’s closing open tabs and navigating through apps as if I’m perpetually tapping the screen.

Given that my computer is an All-in-One model, replacing the monitor poses a significant challenge. Hence, I’m seeking a solution to disable the touchscreen functionality so I can connect to an external monitor without interference.

If you’re in a similar predicament or know how to navigate these settings, your insights would be invaluable and much appreciated. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide!

  1. Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the touchscreen issue with your HP All-in-One device. Disabling the touchscreen can help prevent unintended inputs and make it easier to use an external monitor. Here’s how you can do that:

    • Open Device Manager: Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
    • Locate Human Interface Devices: Expand the Human Interface Devices section.
    • Find the Touch Screen Device: Look for an entry that contains HID-compliant touch screen.
    • Disable the Device: Right-click on the HID-compliant touch screen and select Disable device. Confirm if prompted.

Once disabled, your device’s touchscreen should stop registering input, allowing you to use your external monitor seamlessly. Keep in mind, you can re-enable the touchscreen similarly via Device Manager if needed in the future.

If the touchscreen hardware or drivers are not behaving as expected, or if you prefer a more technological solution, consider contacting HP support for further assistance or exploring hardware repair options since the screen is physically damaged
