Two Years After Losing My Old iPhone, Find My App Alerts Me It’s Resting in Africa

An Unexpected Turn: The Journey of My Lost iPhone

Losing your belongings can be distressing, especially when they hold sentimental value. Two years ago, I misplaced my old iPhone, and recently, I received an unexpected notification that it had been located—over 7,000 kilometers away in a rural part of Africa.

Upon receiving the alert through the Find My app, I jumped into action and promptly initiated a remote wipe of the device. However, a lingering question remains: Was the phone truly wiped clean?

The Backstory

Realizing the potential for misuse, I wasted no time in remotely wiping the device.

As for my other phone, the iPhone 6s, it remains lost, leaving me to wonder if it might one day present itself or if it’s lost to the ages.
