An Unexplainable Incident with My PC: Seeking Guidance
I recently experienced an unsettling situation with my computer that has left me feeling quite uneasy, and I’d like to share it in hopes of gaining some insight from the community.
While playing Battlefield 4, I attempted to record some gameplay using Nvidia’s built-in tools. In my quest to figure out which key combination saves the footage, I accidentally stumbled upon a different shortcut. Moments later, I noticed the game exhibiting strange behavior—random keys seemed to be activating on their own, and the chat feature opened up to type out “amr admin.” Panicking, I exited the game, unsure of what might be happening.
As I opened Google Chrome, the bizarre occurrences escalated. To my astonishment, the browser began typing actual sentences in the search bar as if possessed. The phrases included “use thea hze li again?” and “deah but now I might not be able ti do much :^_.” In a state of disbelief, I quickly ran a scan with Malwarebytes, but it detected nothing unusual.
The situation worsened when I attempted to exit Battlefield; it repeatedly reconnected me to the server, while my mouse flickered erratically until I ultimately had to reboot my PC. I investigated the keyboard for any macros that might be causing the issue but found nothing out of the ordinary. After scouring the internet for similar experiences, I came up empty-handed. This entire episode felt surreal, and I was left questioning whether I was dealing with malware or an odd hardware malfunction. I hadn’t downloaded anything in the last two weeks, which added to my confusion.
Now, I’m at a crossroads. Should I consider performing a complete wipe of my PC, despite having important files stored? Has anyone else faced a similar incident? Is my computer compromised? What measures can I take?
I apologize for the format of this message—I’m typing in a hurry on my phone due to the urgency of the situation.
Update 1: I’ve tried to reproduce the typing behavior but haven’t had any luck, even when following the same keystrokes from earlier.
Update 2: Thank you all for your thoughtful suggestions. After checking all macros and ensuring no remote connections were active, I decided it was best to wipe my PC entirely. I will keep the community posted on any findings once I set everything back up.
Update 3: A heartfelt thanks again for all the advice. Many
