Troubleshooting Boot Issues After Upgrading to a 500GB SSD
Recently, I upgraded my primary drive from a 250GB SSD to a new 500GB SSD, and I’m encountering a peculiar booting issue with Windows. I utilized Macrium Reflect Free to clone all the contents from my previous 250GB drive to the new one. Both drives appear to be configured identically, as confirmed by my observations.
Upon powering up my system, instead of booting into Windows, I’m met with the frustrating “Reboot and select proper boot device” error message. However, there’s an unusual twist: when I access the BIOS, there’s a boot option that appears to be blank. Despite its unlabelled status, selecting this option surprisingly allows my computer to boot into Windows, granting me full access to the 500GB storage space.
Steps I Have Taken So Far
To resolve the booting issues, I’ve tried several troubleshooting methods:
-
Verified Boot Priority: I ensured that the 500GB SSD is set as the primary boot device. Interestingly, the mysterious blank boot option doesn’t even appear in this startup menu, adding to the confusion surrounding its origin.
-
Utilized Windows Recovery Tools: I created a Windows recovery USB and attempted to run the automatic repair tool. Unfortunately, this method did not resolve the boot issue.
