Urgent: I Accidentally Damaged My Mom’s Phone—Please Help Before She Finds Out

How to Resolve Phone Network Settings Issues: A Cautionary Tale

Hello everyone!

Today, I’d like to share an experience that many of us can relate to: the unfortunate mishaps that can occur while experimenting with technology. Recently, I found myself in a bit of a pickle when I accidentally altered my mother’s phone’s network settings, and I could use your expertise to help me find a solution.

What happened? Well, during a moment of curiosity, I used the code ##4636## in the phone’s app, which led to a significant change in the network configuration. I unwittingly switched her phone to “4G (LTE only)” mode, which meant she could no longer make calls. At the time, I had no idea that this setting would affect her ability to communicate.

Realizing my mistake, I quickly reverted the setting back to “4G/3G (LTE/GSM with PRL).” However, the problem didn’t end there. Whenever my mum restarts her phone—often due to it freezing, which I can only describe as a black screen at maximum brightness—her device defaults back to “4G (LTE only)” mode, once again disabling her calling capabilities.

Now, I’m reaching out to the knowledgeable community here: is there a way to maintain the correct settings so that her phone remains capable of making calls, even after a reboot? Additionally, is it possible to configure her phone to use 4G permanently while still allowing calls?

I appreciate any advice or strategies that you can provide. And a special shoutout to those who have already offered suggestions—I’ve tried several, and one of them did lead to a temporary fix.

It’s funny how one of my most unexpected interactions on Reddit turned into a sort of cry for help! Thanks for any help you can offer; I truly don’t want to face the wrath of my mum for this little tech adventure gone wrong!

Looking forward to your responses!
