In the realm of information technology, particularly in cybersecurity, there’s a pervasive sentiment that many companies merely pay lip service to the importance of securing their digital assets. Having spent nearly a decade in the IT sector, I’ve had the opportunity to work with several organizations, none of which are Fortune 500 companies. Throughout my journey, I’ve encountered numerous instances that highlight a troubling disconnect between corporate rhetoric and actual security practices. Unfortunately, the current position I hold exemplifies this gap: rather than being integral to the company’s security strategy, I feel more like a mere checkbox—something for the insurance policy to list rather than a critical player in fostering a secure environment.

My responsibilities are surprisingly light, and I find myself compensated generously for the work I do.
