Virus detected when I plug in USB, Win defender say it’s severe

Warning: Virus Detected on USB Drive – What You Need to Know

Recently, I encountered a troubling situation when I connected my USB drive to my computer. Upon trying to access the files, I noticed that it took an unusually long time to load. During this wait, Windows Defender flagged a severe threat associated with the drive.

My USB had been previously connected to a school computer to transfer some work, where I experienced a similar issue. There, all my files had mysteriously transformed into an unreadable format with the “.lmk” extension. It was alarming at first, as it seemed like my documents had vanished, but fortunately, I managed to recover everything by using a simple command in the Command Prompt.

This time around, however, the scenario felt different. After retrieving my USB from a friend who had used it for printing, I started to question whether it had picked up some sort of malware from the school’s computer. While I trust my friends and believe they wouldn’t introduce a virus deliberately, one cannot be too careful given the unpredictable nature of some public systems.

I am concerned that the school computer could have been compromised by malicious software that targets USB drives. To err on the side of caution, I disconnected my USB Wi-Fi dongle immediately to prevent any potential internet access and further spread of whatever threat might be lurking on the drive.

As I write this, I am reaching out to the community to gauge whether this is something I should be genuinely worried about. Has anyone else faced a similar issue? What recovery steps can I take to ensure my files are safe, and my computer remains free from viruses? Your insights and advice would be greatly appreciated as I navigate this troubling circumstance.
