Vizio TV Keeps Showing “Checking for Updates” Nonstop

Troubleshooting Your Vizio TV: Resolving the Endless “Searching for Updates” Issue

Encountering technical issues with your smart TV can be incredibly frustrating, especially when it interrupts your viewing experience. Recently, I faced a perplexing situation with my 32″ E-series Vizio smart TV that had me scratching my head. While enjoying some content streamed from my computer, the TV inexplicably began an endless loop of “searching for available updates” followed by “loading.” It would repeat this cycle seemingly forever.

Initially, I contemplated the possibility that it was merely a temporary hiccup, as the video continued to play for a few moments. However, the issue persisted, rendering my screen almost unusable as the “searching” message refused to vanish. Despite my attempts to remedy the situation—ranging from power cycling the TV and restarting my modem/router to perusing the settings in search of an option to disable automatic updates—nothing seemed to help. The result? A television that had turned nearly useless whenever connected to the Internet.

The constant “searching” disrupted everything I attempted to do on the device, including navigating the menu. Even if I successfully opened an app, the persistent message at the bottom of the screen made it nearly impossible to enjoy any content.

Seeking Solutions

If you’ve encountered a similar issue, rest assured you are not alone. This seems to be a known hiccup with Vizio TVs, and some users have discovered effective workarounds. Here are a couple of methods that have reportedly resolved the problem:

For Wireless Connections:
1. Navigate to the Menu and select Network.
2. Choose WPS to initiate the connection process.
3. As soon as the television starts connecting, cancel the process. This action will disconnect the TV from the network.
4. Reconnect to your preferred network by re-entering your Wi-Fi password.

This simple trick has helped many users, including myself, put an end to the frustrating update search.

For Wired Connections:
Though I haven’t personally tested this, reports indicate success with the following steps:
1. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the TV.
2. Attempt to switch to a wireless network and cancel the connection process.
3. Reconnect the Ethernet cable afterward.

This should also halt the relentless searching.
