Rediscovering a Piece of Technology History: The Sharp PC-7000
Recently, while organizing my shed, I stumbled upon a fascinating piece of my family’s technological history: my father’s portable Sharp PC-7000. I couldn’t resist taking a quick snapshot of it while it rested on my lap, a charming reminder of how far we’ve come since its heyday.
This relic has spent quite a bit of time in the shed, primarily to avoid any uninvited guests—specifically, spiders that love to make it their home. To my surprise, after being tucked away for so long, the computer powered up immediately when I connected it! It’s a testament to the durability of vintage tech.
What makes this find even more exciting is that we still have floppy disks compatible with the machine. It’s incredible to think that my dad relied on this device during his academic years, taking it with him to classes as he navigated the digital landscape of that time. The Sharp PC-7000, once considered cutting-edge, now serves as a nostalgic reminder of the early days of portable computing.
Reflecting on this discovery has me appreciating the significant technological advancements that have transpired since then, and it also piques my curiosity about the stories and experiences tied to this remarkable device. It’s not just a computer; it’s a bridge to the past, connecting generations through our shared love for innovation.
