Unearthing Nostalgia: The Sharp PC-7000
During a recent tidying up of our shed, I stumbled upon a remarkable piece of technology from a bygone era—my father’s portable computer, the Sharp PC-7000. As I pulled it from its dusty resting place, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia wash over me.
This vintage device, which I could only capture in a single photo while it rested on my lap, seemed to radiate stories of its past. It’s no wonder that the PC-7000 was regarded as cutting-edge during its heyday. Indeed, I can imagine my father carrying it to lectures, a testament to its portability and significance in his academic life.
Currently, this gem resides in our shed, primarily due to a few uninvited eight-legged guests. However, much to my surprise, it powered on effortlessly when connected to an outlet. Remarkably, we still have floppy disks that accompany it, preserving a slice of history from an era dominated by this innovative technology.
Rediscovering the Sharp PC-7000 has sparked my curiosity about the evolution of Computers and the impact they’ve had on our lives. It serves as a beautiful reminder of how far we’ve come since those early days of portable computing, a technology that was once groundbreaking and has become a cherished memory of my father’s experiences.
