Troubleshooting Internet Issues in a Complicated Household Setup

Staying connected in today’s world is essential, and it can be incredibly frustrating when your internet connection becomes unstable—especially at the most inconvenient times. I recently experienced this firsthand after moving in with my significant other and her family. While the living arrangement offers its own unique charm, I quickly discovered that the internet can be a source of tension in our household.

The head of the household is quite tech-savvy and has set up a complex network. Interestingly, the internet frequently goes down following disputes within the family. Each time this occurs, he insists he has nothing to do with the disconnection and offers me tips on restoring the service, such as resetting the router and modem. However, despite diligently following his advice, the connection only seems to restore itself after he intervenes—often after moments of escalating frustration that involve a conversation with customer service. It raises the question: is there something else going on here?

What complicates matters further is that he has changed the administrative credentials for the network, preventing me from accessing the settings to troubleshoot the problem myself. I’ve attempted hard resets of the modem and router, only to find that these measures yield no results.
