Troubleshooting Internet Outages: A Personal Experience
Hello readers,
Today, I wanted to share a rather peculiar situation we’ve found ourselves in regarding our home internet connection. My partner and I recently moved into her parents’ house, and while the transition has been mostly smooth, one ongoing issue has created a bit of tension—our internet frequently goes offline at what can only be described as inconvenient times.
The situation is complicated by my stepfather-in-law’s extensive tech knowledge and the intricacies of the home network he has set up. More often than not, whenever there’s a disagreement at home, the internet seems to vanish into thin air. Interestingly, he’s quick to maintain his innocence about any involvement, often suggesting basic troubleshooting steps for when the connection drops. I’ve followed his advice—resetting both the router and the modem—yet the connection often remains elusive until he arrives home and makes a call to the internet provider, at which point the service mysteriously reactivates.
Complicating matters, he has modified the administrative password for the router settings, leaving me without the ability to check or adjust the network myself. Performing a hard reset on the modem and router has also yielded no results. Given these circumstances, I’ve been considering alternative solutions to ensure reliable internet access.
As I continue to navigate this unique scenario, I’m inviting any suggestions or advice you might have. Should I keep an eye out for patterns in the outages? Could there be additional steps I haven’t tried? Or would establishing my own separate internet connection be the best path forward?
I appreciate any insights you might provide as I work to resolve this ongoing dilemma. Thank you!
