Troubleshooting a Persistent “Your Connection is Not Private” Error
Hello Readers,
As someone with nearly three years of experience in tech support, I pride myself on my problem-solving skills. However, a recent technical hiccup has left me quite bewildered, and I’m reaching out for your insights.
I’ve encountered a frustrating scenario while using my Ethernet connection, where every time I attempt to access any website, I am met with the following error message:
“Your connection is not private”
The warning further alerts me that attackers might be attempting to steal sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card details, and indicates an NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID issue.
To tackle this problem, I’ve already undertaken a variety of troubleshooting steps:
- Adjusted date and time settings
- Cleared cache and cookies, and attempted browsing in Incognito mode
- Tried different web browsers
- Executed a Winsock reset and DNS flush
- Restarted the router and switched Ethernet ports (noting that I am the only Ethernet-connected PC in the house)
- Manually configured my IP and DNS settings
- Verified the proxy settings
- Cleared the SSL state
- Reinstalled the network drivers
- Attempted to add “-ignore-certificate-errors” to my Chrome shortcut
- Disabled my antivirus software and turned off Windows Defender
My current setup consists of a PC connected directly to the router with the following specifications:
– Motherboard: Asus B450-F Gaming
– CPU: Ryzen 2700X
– Operating System: Windows 10 x64, version 1809
– GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2080
Despite my best efforts, this issue persists. If anyone has encountered a similar problem or has suggestions for additional troubleshooting, I would greatly appreciate your guidance!
Update: Resolution
After much trial and error, I managed to resolve the issue by flashing the router to the latest firmware and resetting it to factory settings. If you’re experiencing similar difficulties, consider this as a potential solution!
