Windows defender is not starting and Kaspersky has been deleted?

Troubleshooting Windows Defender and Kaspersky: A Personal Experience

Today, I experienced a troubling issue with my laptop that I think many users can relate to: I discovered that both Windows Defender and Kaspersky, my well-regarded antivirus program, were not functioning. Upon starting my device, I went to check Windows Security and was met with a perplexing white screen displaying only the message “Security at a glance.” When I attempted to launch Kaspersky using its shortcut, I was greeted with an error that stated, “The item ‘avpui.exe’ that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly.”

In an attempt to rectify the situation, I opted to restart my laptop, hoping that it would resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the problem persisted. The only recent installation on my system was GTA V from the Epic Games Store, which I didn’t expect to interfere with my security applications.

A Turning Point

After following various troubleshooting suggestions, I decided to initiate a Windows reset through the system settings. To my relief, this seemed to restore everything back to normal. While I appreciate the functionality of my device returning to its previous state, I can’t shake off the unsettling realization that a virus may have been capable of disabling my antivirus Software. The thought is indeed alarming.

I’m left wondering about the intentions of such a virus and whether my personal files are now at risk of being accessed by others. The encounter served as a harsh reminder of the vulnerabilities we face in the digital world.

Conclusion

While I’m grateful for the recovery, this experience underscores the importance of keeping backup systems and being vigilant about cybersecurity. If you’ve faced a similar issue, I encourage you to share your experiences or any effective solutions you’ve found. Stay safe out there!
