After three years immersed in the world of cybersecurity, I find myself at a crossroads. Despite holding a Master’s degree and having garnered experience with esteemed organizations, I cannot shake the feeling of exhaustion that has settled in.

On paper, my career appears to be on an upward trajectory. Yet, beneath the surface lies a profound sense of fatigue. Each day seems to become a competition against the clock, as I’m faced with the pressure to continuously elevate my skills and meet unattainable deadlines. Tasks that should naturally span two to three days are often crammed into an eight-hour sprint, leaving me feeling overwhelmed and stretched thin.

I genuinely appreciate the field and the work I do—there’s an undeniable excitement and importance to cybersecurity. However, the reality of my daily routine feels like an unending cycle: the typical 9 to 5, occasionally extending into the evenings, followed by a weary descent into personal responsibilities that I barely have the energy for. After a brief respite during vacation, it seems like I’m right back at it again, repeating the same exhausting patterns.

This raises questions in my mind: Is this just a symptom of burnout? Am I in a role that doesn’t align with my aspirations? Or is this exhausting routine simply an unfortunate norm in the tech and cybersecurity landscape? I find myself more drained with each passing day and increasingly uncertain about the direction I’m heading.
