My Journey in Cybersecurity

My career in technology began at a young age when I first learned to code at just seven years old on a Timex Sinclair 1000. My fascination with technology led me to explore the vibrant Chicago coding community through early bulletin board systems (BBS) and the iconic Commodore 64, before eventually moving on to an Intel 386 PC running Linux in the early 90s.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of holding various esteemed positions, including Chief Security Officer at Uptake, and Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, where I contributed to the field of cybersecurity on a global scale. My passion for security has allowed me to provide unique perspectives on critical issues like malware, mobile security, and the latest InfoSec trends at renowned events such as Black Hat, DEF CON, and OWASP.

A Commitment to the Hacker Community

In addition to my corporate roles, I am proud to be part of the Chicago hacker scene for several decades and have founded THOTCON, a hacker conference that celebrated its 12th edition in 2023. My experience includes investigating some of the largest data breaches in history, and over the past four years at Kraken, I have focused on developing robust programs aimed at safeguarding our cryptocurrency exchange from potential threats.
