Troubleshooting Random Shutdowns: My Journey to a Stable Computer Build

Building your own computer can be an exhilarating experience, but when unexpected issues arise, it can quickly turn into a frustrating endeavor. Recently, I encountered a perplexing problem with my newly assembled PC, which would randomly shut down and restart during the boot sequence and even while in use. Here’s a detailed account of my troubleshooting journey and how I ultimately resolved the issue.

The Initial Setup

After completing my PC build, I joyfully powered up my machine—only to be met with a frustrating reality. Within a few days, I noticed that the computer would turn off almost immediately upon booting, restarting itself several times before fully starting up. The Troubleshooting Process

Initially, I sought solutions online, which led me to believe that my prior power supply might have been faulty. So, I invested in a more robust power supply, the Corsair RMX, hoping it would resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the problem persisted despite this upgrade.

Determined to figure it out, I meticulously disassembled the computer four different times, checking all connections and ensuring everything was properly seated. I also updated Windows and all pertinent Nvidia drivers, thinking outdated software might contribute to the issue.

Finding the Solution

After numerous adjustments and considerable time spent researching, I finally stumbled upon the root cause: the RAM frequency settings. It turned out that my RAM was manually set to 3200MHz, which was not optimal for my setup. Upon switching the settings to Auto, the frequency defaulted to 2144MHz.
