Getting robocalls once every 20ish minutes reading numbers out. Not sure what to make of it.

Unraveling the Mystery of Odd Robocalls: What’s Behind the Numbers?

Lately, I’ve been inundated with peculiar robocalls—approximately every twenty minutes—featuring a disembodied, text-to-speech voice methodically reading out a series of numbers. After the initial countdown, the voice states, “and I repeat,” recites the same numbers once more, adds a polite “thank you,” and promptly hangs up.

I’m at a loss to comprehend the purpose of these strange calls. Has anyone else experienced this type of robocall? What could be the reasoning behind such a bizarre pattern? Any insights or experiences you could share would be greatly appreciated!

Additionally, I’ve documented a clip of one of these calls, which you can check out here: Watch the Robocall Video.

Engagement in the comments below would be immensely helpful. Thank you!

  1. Hi there,

Robocalls that repeatedly read out specific numbers at regular intervals often suggest a form of automated verification or data collection. These could be part of a caller attempting to validate live numbers for future spam or scam calls. Alternatively, it might be some sort of telephony testing or diagnostic tool used by telemarketing operations or malicious actors.

To mitigate this, consider the following steps:

    • Enable built-in spam and robocall protections offered by your phone carrier or device settings.
    • If you’re using a VoIP service or smartphone with call-blocking features, utilize apps or features that identify and block suspected robocallers.
    • Register your number with the national Do Not Call registry, if applicable in your country.
    • Be cautious about answering suspicious calls, especially those that read out numbers or contain odd patterns.

If the calls persist or if the content is concerning, consider reporting them to local authorities or your phone carrier for further assistance. Capturing recordings like the one you’ve linked can be very helpful in identifying and blocking such patterns.

Stay vigilant, and feel free to reach out if you need more specific guidance related to your device or service provider.
