I had an adware on my phone, what should I do now that I got rid of it

Overcoming Adware: My Journey to Clear My Phone and How You Can Do the Same

Hello everyone! As a newcomer to this space, I wanted to share my experience with adware on my phone and seek your guidance. Recently, I encountered a perplexing situation that I’m sure many can relate to.

While browsing my phone, I noticed a popup that appeared to originate from Xiaomi. It mentioned an app called “Hero Challenge.” Without thinking too much about it, I clicked on the popup—mistakenly believing it was a harmless notification. Almost immediately, the popup vanished, and I thought nothing more of it. However, things took a turn when I began to notice random ads appearing on my home screen, albeit infrequently.

Out of curiosity, I kept an eye out for additional occurrences. Eventually, I discovered that a window for the “Hero Challenge” app had mysteriously opened on my device. If I clicked on it, I was redirected to the Play Store, but my own searches through the file manager and the Play Store were fruitless—I couldn’t find the app anywhere.

My anxiety grew when I noticed a blank space in my app drawer’s layout, leading me to suspect that the elusive adware was the culprit. Determined to regain control of my phone, I pressed and held the blank icon and uninstalled it without hesitation. Since then, I have not encountered any ads, which is a relief, but I can’t shake the fear that there may still be malicious software lurking in the shadows.

I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has faced a similar issue. What steps did you take to ensure your device was free of malware, spyware, or adware? I’ve attempted to use various virus scanners, but I’m still uncertain about the overall safety of my phone.

If you have any tips or recommendations on how to thoroughly check for and remove any lurking threats, please share your wisdom! Your experiences and advice would be immensely valuable as I aim to restore my peace of mind.

Thank you for your support!

  1. Hi there,

It sounds like you’ve taken some good initial steps by uninstalling the suspicious app and monitoring for further ads. To ensure your device is thoroughly clean and secure, I recommend the following actions:

    • Run a reputable malware scan: Use trusted security apps such as Malwarebytes, Bitdefender Mobile Security, or Avast Mobile Security to perform a comprehensive scan. Keep the app updated before scanning.
    • Clear app caches and data: Go to Settings > Apps > [Your Problematic App] > Storage > Clear Cache & Clear Data. This might help remove residual files.
    • Check your device permissions: Review app permissions via Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Permissions. Revoke any unnecessary or suspicious permissions.
    • Uninstall any suspicious or unused apps: If you notice apps that you didn’t install or look suspicious, uninstall them.
    • Update your device firmware and apps: Ensure your phone’s operating system and all apps are up-to-date to patch potential vulnerabilities.
    • Factory Reset (if necessary): If you
