Troubleshooting a Surface Laptop: Seeking Solutions for a Red Band with Lock Symbol

Have you ever encountered a situation where your Surface Laptop simply refused to boot, displaying an alarming red band adorned with a locking symbol? If so, you’re not alone. Recently, I faced this frustrating issue after leaving my device unused for an extended period. In hopes of reviving it, I sought out solutions through various online guides, particularly many found on YouTube, yet to no avail.

After exhausting my DIY efforts, I decided to consult a local repair technician. Although he was diligent in his attempts to revive my Surface Laptop, he, too, encountered obstacles. Despite being authorized to perform a complete wipe of the system, his efforts did not yield successful results.

At this point, I’m reaching out to the community for assistance. If anyone has faced a similar issue and found effective tricks or solutions that worked to resolve the booting problem, I would greatly appreciate your insights. Your recommendations could help not just me, but also others who may be struggling with the same dilemma. Thank you in advance for any advice you can share!

Here are some steps you can try to resolve this problem:

    • Perform a Hard Reset: Press and hold the **Power button** for 30 seconds, then release. Press the power button again to turn on your device and see if the issue persists.
    • Check for Firmware Updates: If possible, connect your Surface to a power source and attempt to boot into the UEFI/BIOS firmware settings by holding down the **Volume Up** button and pressing the **Power button**. From there, check if any firmware updates are available or reset the firmware settings to default.
    • Reset via Recovery Options: If your device can enter recovery mode, try booting into Windows Recovery environment by holding the **Shift** key while selecting Restart.
